CANDIDATE BRINGS IDEAL SET OF SKILLS FOR COUNTY LEADERSHIP
What are the responsibilities of a Clatsop County Commissioner?
Legislative authority: passing local ordinances and adopting a comprehensive land-use plan. Mike Brosius, running for Astoria-focused District 3, has been involved in land-use issues in and around Astoria, working directly with the city and developers to help facilitate effective, beneficial land-use.
Budget oversight: adopting the annual county budget and determining how funds are allocated to essential services. Essential services: Public Safety, including sheriff and jail operations, district attorney, emergency management, and animal control; Health and Human Services, including public health, mental health, veteran services, housing and shelter; Community Development and Public Works, including county roads, land-use planning, assessment and taxation; administration and government, including elections.
Mike Brosius has extensive tenure in a corporate position with Costco Wholesale, whose annual operating budget is well north of $100 billion. Clatsop County’s current budget is $116 million.
Policy Development: Establishing high-level policies for public safety, health and human services, community development, and public works. Mike Brosius has been heavily involved in various causes and concerns since moving to Astoria several years ago. He cares about where he lives, consistently and actively participating at the city and county levels to improve viability and livability.
District 3 is Astoria. Astoria deserves a go-getter, a problem-solver, a good listener, a big picture thinker, and a thoughtful community member.
Now we all know the responsibilities of a Clatsop County Commissioner. I hope you will join me in voting for the best candidate for District 3, Mike Brosius.
Troy Hill, Astoria
